‘Winner Alright – Dermot Weld Champion of Ballybrit’

Chanelle Veterinary Leading Trainer Award: Galway Races


Dermot Weld commanded the Ballybrit field once again this year and has taken home the Chanelle Veterinary Leading Trainer Award for the 20th time! 

Dermot stormed ahead of the field on 57 points with 7 race wins and 8 placements during this year’s Galway race festival.  This year is Chanelle Veterinary’s 21st year sponsoring this award.

The leading Trainer award is presented to the Trainer with the most points accumulated over the 7 days of the summer festival.

Dermot Weld’s son, Mark, was presented with the Chanelle Plate and a prize of €3,800 by Mary Burke, Director of Chanelle Veterinary.

On the last day there was strong competition for the runner up spot and Mrs John Harrington was just pipped at the post by 1 point by Willie Mullins who had collected a total of 27 points from 4 wins and 3 placements, he was awarded second prize of €1,200.
