Mad Hatter 2007
Hats off to Mad Hatters at the Mercer Accommodation Group & New Great Southern Hotel Group’s Mad Hatter Day at the Galway Races 2007!
The last and most fun day of the Galway Races saw Ballybrit turn into a crowd of Mad Hatters at the annual Mercer Accommodation Group’s Mad Hatter Day on Sunday. Women, men and children all made impressive efforts to win the titles of the Maddest Hatter, Alice’s Idol and the March Harebrain Hat plus lots of more kid’s prizes were up for grabs on the day. The platform was overwhelmed with excited children and adults lining up to strut their stuff on stage and show off their mad hats. Sponsors, Mercer Accommodation Group, were delighted to report a huge increase in the number of children participating this year, making it a fun filled family occasion to mark a great end to a fantastic week at the Galway Races!
Judge, Lucy Kennedy turned up in style to judge the crazy and outrageous entries! Lucy had a difficult task in choosing between the range of fabulous and creative hats. The rain the poured half way through the judging but didn’t dampen the excitement and after much deliberation Lucy awarded the prizes to the following Mad Hatters:
1st Prize The Maddest HatterAnne Marie Ryan from Castlegar, Co Galway who wore a Galway Water Hat inspired by the recent water contamination issue in
2nd Prize Alice’s Idol
Eithne Staunton from Claremorris, Co Mayo who wore an elaborate flower hat. Eithne won a weekend break in the newly opened Cork International Airport Hotel plus €1,000 spending money.
3rd Prize "March Hare brain Hat"
Breda Burke from Abbey Knock Moy, Co Galway who wore a tempting Cake Hat. Breda won a weekend break for 2 people in the Mercer Hotel Dublin plus €500 spending money.
The Kids prizes on day included a Sony Playstation 3 for 1st prize which was given to Alannah Donoghue for her creative Shells Hat.
The Mercer Accommodation Group would like to thank all visitors and competition entrants at Mad Hatter Day 2007. Once again the day was fun, exciting and lively due the time and imagination put into all the hats and costumes. We look forward to seeing you all back again next year!
