Leading Trainer Award
The Leading Trainer Award at Galway Races Summer Festival Meeting is sponsored by Chanelle Veterinary, Ireland’s leading veterinary supplier and manufacturer of veterinary pharmaceuticals. The prize of €3,800 will be awarded to the trainer who accumulates the highest number of points throughout the racing festival and the runner up will receive a cheque for €1,200.The competition which runs over all seven days of the festival is based on a points system.

 
Points are awarded to trainers according to their placement in the races, if a trainers horse comes in 1st they will receive the maximum 5 points, for 2nd place they receive 3 points, and for 3rd place they receive 1 point. The trainer with the highest points wins and takes home the prize-fund and the Leading Trainer Award Trophy. Look out for our leader board each day at the racecourse to see who’s winning this particular race.

Dermot Weld took home the Chanelle Veterinary Leading Trainer Plate, Animec Paste and a cheque for €3,800 for the 25th time on the final day of the Galway Races 2011. The year was especially poignant as Weld smashed his previous record of 11 winners in 2010 with an astounding 17 winners at the festival in 2011.
The runner-up prize went to the wire but Noel Meade came away with the prize of €1,200.
