This fantastic event takes places on Friday 30th July, kicking off @ 5pm with the first race. The last race is at 8.30pm and the party continues until 10pm.
There will be buses running to and from Eyre Square/Galway Race Course all evening.

Details of Anthony Ryan’s Best Dressed Lady and Best Hat Competition Announced

Here come the girls! Move over SATC2, the countdown is now on to the most glamorous event of the year when Irish fashionistas dust down their manolos and descend in their thousands to Ballybrit for Ladies Day at the Galway Races.

With exactly one month to go, Anthony Ryan’s Galway, sponsors of the Best Dressed Lady and Best Hat Competition at the Galway Races have announced details of this year’s event and prize package.

Taking place on Thursday 29th July, Anthony Ryan’s Best Dressed Lady is set to scoop a prize worth over €12000.

DETAILS OF PRIZES

This year’s Best Dressed Lady will walk away with a one carat diamond solitaire pendant valued at €8500, a shopping spree worth €1500 in Anthony Ryans, Galway and €1000 cash. She will also receive a corporate hospitality package for Galway Races October Bank Holiday Racing Festival to include dinner and champagne reception and a Lancôme Presentation Gift Hamper worth over €500.

The prize for the winner of the ‘Best Hat’ is a €1500 shopping spree at Anthony Ryan’s Galway. All finalists at the Anthony Ryan’s Best Dressed marquee will be presented with a special collection of Lancôme cosmetics compliments of University Pharmacy, Galway.

JUDGES
Judging this year’s competition are three of the best known names in the Irish fashion industry –Bairbre Power, Fashion Editor of the Irish Independent and Executive Editor of the Irish Independent Weekend magazine, model and Xposé presenter Glenda Gilson and PJ Gibbons, Editor, Social and Personal Magazine.
They will be joined by well known faces from the Galway fashion scene Patricia McCrossan, Managing Director, Galway NOW, Mandy Maher, Catwalk Model Agency and Fiona Durkin, Fashion Consultant with Anthony Ryan Ltd.

TIMING

Ladies interested in taking part in this year’s Anthony Ryan’s Best Dressed Lady Competition are asked to arrive early as the finalists will be chosen by 2.30pm.

There is no entry required for the competition. Judges will mingle through the crowd and will invite selected finalists to the judging marquee which is located adjacent to the champagne tent in the race enclosure.

The winning outfits will be announced at 3.30pm. The prize giving ceremony will take place in the enclosure immediately after the 5th race.

Topaz supports richest racing Handicap in the country
Topaz galloping to Galway this July

Tuesday June 29th 2010: Topaz, Ireland’s leading fuel and convenience retailer are delighted to announce their involvement at the Galway Races on the Tuesday evening 27th July, of the Summer Festival Meeting. The Topaz Mile, the newest race to feature at the Summer Festival, will be the richest Handicap run in Ireland this year at a value of €120,000 and is one of the most competitive Handicaps contested throughout the year. All of Irelands leading trainers, jockeys and owners will compete in this highly coveted Handicap. Topaz is the new partner for the feature race and two supporting races on the evening. The Topaz Mile will take place at 7pm on the second day of racing.

The total prize fund for the Topaz races is €140,000. The other two races of the evening are the Topaz Maiden Hurdle and the Topaz Handicap. Over 50 entrants will take part in the three events.

According to Topaz CEO Mr. Eddie O’Brien, Topaz is proud to be supporting such a unique Irish festival. “The Galway Races, and especially the Summer Festival, are such popular events for punters across the country that it’s difficult not to get caught up in the excitement of it all. Over 950 competitors will take part in 51 races over the seven days, competing for a share of the €1.5 million total prize fund. The Galway Races Summer Festival has been taking place since 1869. The 2010 Meeting commences on Monday 26th July and runs until Sunday 1st August. Around 170,000 people are expected to descend on Ballybrit to enjoy a day, or week, at the races.

There was excitement in the air this morning at the G Hotel where the highly anticipated Galway Races 2010 Summer Festival Meeting was launched. Speaking at the launch, Mr. Tim Naughton, Chairman of the Galway Race Committee was delighted to announce a number of new sponsors for this year’s Summer Festival Meeting.
This year’s Galway Plate Day will now be sponsored by Tote Ireland with the feature race thetote.com Galway Plate valued at €200,000, one of Ireland’s most historic races.
