As well as the great racing there are many special or themed days at Galway Races.  Monday, 26th July kicks off the seven day festival as "Opening Night with the Sports Stars", with interviews from a host of local and national sports stars. The event will be hosted by the ever popular Daithí O Sé.

In conjunction with the open evening celebrations there will be a "Most Appropriately Dressed Lady Competition". The lucky winner on the night will walk away with a stunning hat designed for the competitio n by Suzie Mahony and will be judged by Suzie and well known style guru Mandy Maher of the Catwalk Model Agency. Suzie Mahony's designs have been the crowning glory of many race meetings worldwide. Below are details of Ladies Day, Mad Hatters Day and Friday evenings Singles Party......

Ladies Day (Best Dressed Person Competition) - Thursday JULY 29th of Summer Festival Meeting

The Best Dressed Person Competition takes place on what is traditionally known as Ladies Day on Thursday of Summer Festival Meeting. This competition is generously sponsored by Anthony Ryan Ltd of Shop Street, Galway.  Anthony Ryan Ltd. has a strong reputation for quality service and an unequalled variety of collections, such as, Toypes, Citrine, Giorgio Netti, Libra, Magee, Remus and many more.

The  lucky Best Dressed Lady this year will walk away with a diamond pendant valued at €8,500, €1,000 Cash a €1,500 shopping voucher from Anthony Ryans Ltd a corporate hospitality package for the October Race Meeting and a Lancome Gift Hamper. The winner of the Best Hat competition will win a €1,500 shopping voucher for Anthony Ryans Ltd.  All finalists at the Best Dressed marquee will be presented with a special collection of Lancome cosmetics compliments of University Pharmacy, Galway.

Entry: There is no formal entry procedure to the competitions. Judges simply wander through the crowds and invite chosen finalists to the Anthony Ryan marquee, adjacent to the Champagne Tent. The winning outfits are usually announced at approximately 4pm.

Mad Hatter & family Day – Sunday august 1st of Summer Festival Meeting

Family Day on Sunday, August 1st incorporating the Mad Hatters Competition is going ahead again this year.  The fun and the colour is spectacular on the day. There is huge interest in the Mad Hatters competition and the effort and creativity of the entrants is usually sheer brilliance.   Ireland West Airport and Sunway  are once again kindly sponsoring the wonderful holiday prizes for this competition. The competition will be judged by Loughrea based milliner Suzie Mahony.

PRIZES FOR THE MAD HATTERS COMPETITION 2010

We have spectacular prizes on offer this year.  The winner of the Mad Hatters Competition in the childrens section will win a Family Holiday to the famous 4* Fariones Hotel for one week for two adults and two children. The adult winner of the Mad Hatters Competition will walk away with a one week holiday for two people to the Barcarola Club Apartments which is part of the well known Fariones.
