Press Release

18th June 2017

Injured Jockeys Fund Chairman Ruby Walsh rolled into town today to help launch the first ever ‘Paddy Power Zorbing Derby’ which will take place at this year’s Galway Races Festival. The race, which is in aid of the Injured Jockey’s Fund, will take place before racing beings on Tuesday, August 1st & will feature Paddy Power, Sky Sports hurling analyst & four-time All-Star Ollie Canning, former Irish international footballer Stephen Hunt & a representative of day two sponsor Colm Quinn BMW.

Speaking ahead of the event Paddy Power, a spokesperson for Paddy Power, said; “I’m far more comfortable pricing races than I am participating in them but I’ll do anything for a cause as worthy as the Injured Jockeys Fund. I’m normally one to back myself but I’ll probably keep my money in my pocket in this instance considering the athletic pedigree of my fellow racers.”

Michael Moloney, Manager of Galway Racecourse, said; “The Injured Jockeys Fund offers fantastic support to the horse racing community. As a racecourse we wanted to get behind them this year and offer our support. We’re delighted to have Paddy Power on board to sponsor the first ever Zorbing Derby here at Galway Races and we hope to make it an annual event.”

Ahead of the race Paddy Power have installed Stephen Hunt as the 10/11 favourite with Ollie Canning considered his closest rival at 2/1. Paddy Power is available at 5/1 while Colm Quinn props up the betting at 10/1.
