Athlone Towncentre brings Fashion to the fore with new

Racing Style Competition

Athlone Towncentre has announced a new name for its Galway Races Style Competition as well as its celebrity judges.  Taking place on Friday, 3rd August, ‘Friday’s Most Stylish’ sponsored by Athlone Towncentre is expected to be one of the biggest gatherings of race going fashion lovers to date on the Friday of the Festival.   With the competition in its sixth year, the new name reflects the fashion forward style expected on the day and the contemporary retailers housed within Athlone Towncentre.

Judges for the competition have been announced with Anna Geary, Broadcaster, Athlete, Performance and Wellbeing Coach and Marietta Doran, Fashion Stylist & Racing Style Presenter seeking out the best style efforts at Galway Racecourse on the day.  Both judges have a very keen eye for Racing Style due to their involvement with race meetings throughout the country.

This year sees the biggest Prize Fund on offer for the competition yet, as it is in excess of €3000.  The lucky winner will leave Galway Racecourse with a €1500 Athlone Towncentre shopping spree, a two night luxury hotel & spa break at Sheraton Athlone Hotel, a Gucci Watch courtesy of Fields The Jeweller and bespoke head piece created by Milliner Suzie Mahony plus racing hat hire for the year.

Talking about her excitement ahead of the competition Anna says “I am thrilled to be part of such a fashion filled day as ‘Friday’s Most Stylish’ sponsored by Athlone Towncentre at Galway Races.  I especially love to see how people put their own stamp on their outfit, whether it’s a self-made piece, or attention to the finer details to finish off their ‘look’. People put so much effort into getting ready, using their style instinct to mix pieces from high street stores with boutique gems. It is this individual flair for style that I’ll be looking for on the day.  It’s about expressing your personality through your outfit, and wearing what works for you, so you can feel your best self.”

Speaking at the launch of the new competition name Athlone Towncentre Manager Shirley Delahunt says “we are delighted once again to be involved with the Galway Races.  The Friday evening of race week has undoubtedly found its place on the calendars of stylish race goers from far & wide.  We have seen a real evolution of style at the races over the last number of years which perfectly complements the 60 high street stores and boutiques we house in Athlone Towncentre.  This competition and its previous winners have demonstrated that racing style is now more about reflecting ones’ individual personality and flair for style as opposed to spending an exorbitant amount of money on clothing one cannot wear more than a handful of times.  We’re looking forward to the fresh new take on the competition this year where style becomes a character in itself at Galway Racecourse.”

Social Media fans are advised to keep an eye on the Athlone Towncentre Facebook and Instagram accounts as fashion bloggers Two Broke Divas take them over for the day.  They will showcase the style on view at ‘Friday’s Most Stylish’ competition as well as giving viewers exclusive access to what happens behind the scenes on the day.

Judging for ‘Friday’s Most Stylish’ sponsored by Athlone Towncentre begins throughout Galway Racecourse at 4.00pm with the winner to be announced at 6.20pm. Talking about Friday’s Festival meet, Michael Maloney, General Manager of Galway Racecourse says “the Friday of our seven day Festival has grown from strength to strength, with advance ticket sales very strong again this year, proving it’s huge appeal and popularity.  With an array of great horse racing, new live bands, DJ’s and the reveal of our new Wilson Lynch two storey building, this year’s Galway Races promises to be a winner alright!”

Athlone Towncentre is home to major fashion brands including Zara, River Island and H&M as well as boutiques.  It is an ideal shopping destination with over 60 brands under one roof as well as numerous food offerings catering to all tastes.
