PRESS RELEASE

Monday 2nd July 2018

Chanelle Pharma Changing up The Leading Trainer Award

at the Galway Races for the first time in 33 Years

Chanelle Pharma, the long serving sponsors of the Leading Trainer award at the Galway Races have announced some significant changes in this year’s points system and prize allocation. The prize for the Leading Trainer competition which runs over all seven days of the Festival will now go to the trainer who registers the most wins over the seven days. In the event of a tie, placed horses will be taken into consideration. The new system replaces the old points system where points were awarded for first, second and third place.

Michael Burke, Managing Director of Chanelle Pharma said “Being a Galway company we have a very special affinity with the Galway Races. It is the biggest horsing racing festival in Ireland and we are honoured to be associated with it. Trainers make a significant contribution to the Festival and we feel the new terms of the competition will recognise the most worthy trainer at the end of the seven days of racing.”

This is Chanelle’s 33rd year sponsoring the Chanelle Pharma Leading Trainer – one of the longest running sponsorship relationships in the history of the Galway Races. The affiliation nicely correlates with the 33 years since Chanelle first opened its doors as a manufacturer of generic pharmaceuticals in Loughrea in 1985.

The prize money for this year’s award will also change this year with €3,000 going to the leading trainer and €2,000 going towards the stable staff to recognise their magnificent work and dedication. Michael Burke added, “The stable staff do a tremendous job supporting the Festival. Their hard work and dedication behind the scenes can often go unnoticed and we want to recognise the significant contribution they make.”

Michael Moloney, General Manager of Galway Races said, “we are delighted to be working with Chanelle Pharma, who for the 33rd year will once again be sponsoring ‘The Chanelle Pharma Leading Trainer Award ’making it one of the longest-established partnerships of our Summer Festival. It’s a great culmination of the week to see the Leading Trainer and their team awarded this fantastic prize.”
